We know you have questions before committing. Good — that means you're serious. Here's everything you need to know before you apply.
Yes — and this question tells us you're exactly the kind of person we built the Starter plan for. You don't need experience to join. You need access to the right training, the right software, and a team that actually supports you. That's what Tax Bae provides.
Our Training Vault walks you through everything from filing your first return to understanding deductions, error resolution, and client communication. You will not be thrown in and left to figure it out.
Here's your day-one package:
Most members are fully set up and client-ready within 1 to 2 weeks of joining. The timeline depends on how quickly you complete the Training Vault modules and whether your PTIN is already active.
If you join before tax season, you have time to move through the training at a steady pace. If you're joining in-season, we can help you prioritize what to complete first so you can start filing as soon as possible.
It depends on your plan, your client volume, and your average filing fee. Here's a realistic range:
These are conservative estimates. Members who market actively and offer services year-round consistently outperform these numbers. The ceiling is yours to set.
The $75 per return deduction applies only to returns where a client uses a financial product — meaning they take a refund advance or use the pay-later option to cover your prep fee.
This fee covers bank product processing and compliance costs associated with those financial products. It does not apply to standard returns where the client pays your fee directly upfront.
Payment details are provided during your onboarding and outlined in your agreement. Your revenue share is calculated per return and distributed on a regular schedule throughout the season.
You will have visibility into your filings and earnings through your TB Vault dashboard. If you have specific questions about payment timing or method, our team addresses those in the onboarding call after you're enrolled.
Tax season runs January through April, but your earning potential doesn't have to stop there. Prior year returns, amended returns, and business tax filings are year-round opportunities.
Members who build a client base during the season often continue serving those clients with extensions, quarterly estimated tax filings, and bookkeeping services throughout the year. The income is seasonal by default — how much you extend it is up to you.
TB Vault is Tax Bae's professional tax preparation software — cloud-based, mobile-accessible, and built for high-volume filing. It includes:
Is it hard to learn? Not if you go through the Training Vault first. Module 03 is dedicated to a full software walkthrough, including a practice return from start to finish.
TB Vault is fully cloud-based, which means it runs in any modern web browser — on a laptop, desktop, or tablet. No special software installation is required.
At minimum you need a reliable computer or tablet and a stable internet connection. A printer is optional since the platform supports fully paperless operation. A second monitor is helpful for productivity but not required.
A PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number) is an IRS-issued number required for anyone who prepares or assists in preparing federal tax returns for compensation. You must have one before filing any live returns.
You do not need one to join or start the Training Vault — but you will need it active before you take your first client. PTIN assistance is included in every Tax Bae plan, and Module 02 of the Training Vault walks you through the application step by step.
An EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) is issued by the IRS to authorized e-file providers who operate their own firm. It allows you to transmit returns directly to the IRS under your own entity.
For the Starter, Growth, and Professional plans — you do not need an EFIN. You file under the Tax Bae umbrella.
For the Enterprise plan — an EFIN is required because you operate co-branded software and keep 100% of your prep fees as your own firm. If you're applying for your EFIN, the process typically takes 4–6 weeks. Our team can guide you.
The Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) is an IRS-recognized continuing education credential for non-credentialed tax preparers. Completing it adds real legitimacy to your practice — it shows clients and employers that you're committed to staying current with tax law.
More importantly, it grants you limited representation rights before the IRS for tax returns you prepared — meaning if a client gets audited on a return you filed, you can represent them without being a CPA or attorney.
AFSP is included in the Growth and Professional plans. It is one of the most valuable credentials you can hold as a non-credentialed preparer.
Yes — this is fully remote. Here's how a typical client interaction works:
The entire process from intake to filing can be completed without you and your client ever being in the same room. This is how our team members serve clients across multiple states.
Your clients come primarily from your own network, social media, and referrals. Tax Bae provides you with the tools and brand assets to market yourself professionally — including your mobile app, flyers (Professional and above), and a landing page (Enterprise).
We do not assign clients to you. You are building your own client base under the Tax Bae umbrella. The marketing module inside the Training Vault covers how to attract and retain clients using your Tax Bae brand resources.
TB Vault has built-in error detection that catches the most common mistakes before a return is submitted. That's your first line of defense.
If an issue arises after filing, the Training Vault includes a module on error resolution protocols — how to identify the issue, how to file an amendment, and how to communicate with the client professionally.
Our team is also available for escalation support throughout the season. You are not alone in this. The Training Vault + the Tax Bae team channel are your resources when a situation arises that's outside your experience level.
Yes — Tax Bae partners operate as independent contractors (1099). You are not a W-2 employee. This means you are responsible for your own self-employment taxes, and you have the flexibility to set your own schedule and client volume.
Your agreement outlines your revenue share percentage, the term length (1 year for Starter/Growth/Professional, 2 years for Enterprise), conduct standards, and the $75/return compliance deduction on financial products. You review and sign the agreement before gaining access to the software and Training Vault.
